SECOND CHANCE writer's island prompt

One who asks a question is a fool for five minutes;
one who does not ask a question remains a fool forever.
Chinese Proverb

There is no story here. Only questions posted for fellow bloggers. A second chance...a chance to begin anew with a different direction? Is it possible or will take as long to rebuild as it did to start originally?

What am I talking about? Well, I am retired so it is not about another career. But I am a writer for reasons that I cannot explain. I was a closet writer in a former life. I used it to heal and understand my frustrations and angers. Now I am through being hurt and angry and I can write about the things I know.

I have blogged for over a year. I have written about travel and politics. Books have been reviewed and there has been ranting about situations I have no control over. I have been an advocate for public servants and people that get paid to help other people. There were short stories to write following prompts as well as everyday occurances. I am a pelethora of notions.

The fact that I named my blog in 5 seconds, thinking it would only be a flight of fancy, bothers me a lot now. I yearn for the validation of my own domain name but don't want to use my old blog name. I want something funky and interesting...not that I actually am funky or even interesting but still it would be fun.

So the questions still are where would I go with my new domain name? Would I stay with blogger and use the free but amazing services they provide? Or would I go to Wordpress or even TypePad? And, if I did that, would I have to start all over or could I rename the blog and still move all my blogs over to the new site? Sigh! Understanding that Blogger has a limit on the length of time my writing will be available somehow bothers me...a lot. I would like to be able to store the stories with them forever. Mary Pipher in her book "Writing to Change World" did not suggest relying on our computers at all. She thought we should print or burn CD's and story writing in a separate building! She is a woman afraid of fire I think. But on the other hand if we value the work we have done, shouldn't we spend the resources needed to keep it safe?

A second chance would be so much fun I think. I will write a story tomorrow using the words but for today, I need answers. ANY IDEAS OR OPINIONS ON THIS?

Let me know.

Thank you so much paisley. My daughter in law did the WordPress blog for personal and professional reasons.

I was on blogspot for quite some time and found it perfectly adequate. Then I got a mac that came loaded with iLife, which includes a web building site called iWeb. Now I've got my own website, hosted on mac servers, and automatically backed up with three redundancies. I love it. I also registered my domain name, and set up a mac redirect. Of course, there are fees, but nominal, and well worth it.

Easiest of all: Go to iPower and buy a domain name (something like $19 for three years), then you can load up your url (your blogger blog address) there and the new domain name: www.yourdomain.com will go to your blog url automatically (the blog url will show in the window though). I do this for my website- people put my website url in and it goes to my long, icky url on the mac server.
No- I do NOT work for iPower, but I have tried an other domain name and it was a pain to get it to point.

Let me know if you want more info.
