Sunday morning ramblings...a tradition I would like to establish. This is the day when we reflect on what has been and how we might have made it better. It is the day to relax and be grateful for all we have, not material possessions but the other more important parts of our life.
So I have had a week of absolutely wonderful immaterial wealth! I am full. When the sun shines in Oregon and you can golf or watch your granddaughter play soft ball, life is truly good. I sat under a umbrella in a lawn chair and simply soaked it up.
You who are just now raising children and have them involved in competitive sports know the angst of watching your child is almost unbearable at times. It doesn't change with grandparents. We want so for our children and grandchildren to be happy and when they are in a situation where they may fail, we get a little crazy! So it is with little girls and softball or soccer or basketball or any sport. We say that winning does not matter but the child that drops the ball or fails to block the goal is held responsible for all else that happened during the game. It can be torture. But I would not have missed it for anything. My granddaughter is not affected by it at all. She is just a happy camper most of the time.
So, having said that, I want you to know how proud I was of my granddaughter. It was 100 degrees, her braces on her teeth kept coming apart, she is allergic to grass and she has an infection. But she played with all she had. She stood in the blazing sun for 4 hours, two games in one day. She played right field and tried to keep her focus and she did not complain. She is eleven.
They may have won the championship. I didn't stay for that. I didn't care one way or the other. I had seen what I needed to see...children having fun!
Now it is Sunday, the sun is shining, and it will be 100 degrees again today. We do not have air conditioning so we shut the doors and windows, pull the blinds and go outside to have fun.
Was there important world events today? I don't know. Did the Cubs win? How about the Livestrong bicycle event that was in town this weekend? I don't know. I think I will just spend the day with my daughter and enjoy!
Have a wonderful day.

I can really relate to this! Hello, fellow grandmother (or, in my case, great-grandmother as well). I am sharing your feeling of contentment on this lazy Sunday.
This was really neat! having fun is the most important part of the game! I think my boys (well I would have for sure) complained the whole time! ;)
I love your perspective. Thank you Barbara.
